FAQs

what does TXA TXA mean?

Many people ask us where the name TXA TXA comes from. But, what does it mean? Txa txa comes from the Basque word txoko. Literally it means cozy corner. txoko is a society or club that comes together to cook, to celebrate, to be a convivial collective. But more than what it means, it represents: a sense of time. Or past time. A way of dining representative of a way of life. When we started TXA TXA, that’s what we wanted our dinners to feel like: dancing somewhere between Barcelona at noon and Bangkok at midnight. Transported across boundaries, culture, and era. And most importantly, across the table.

SUPPER CLUB vs vis-à-vis: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Supper Club is a collaborative community-building dinner series always on the last Friday of every month in a new location, a food- or artistic-adjacent small Chicago business, consisting of 35-50 seats. We will tell the story of the space or host through a 5-course menu with a welcome cocktail.

Vis-à-vis is a smaller, more intimate series, usually mid-month and mid-week, that features a local artist, maker, grower, or chef. This series (just 18 seats) is held at our creative culinary studio in Logan Square. The menu will speak to the artist's body of work and allows for each guest to personally get to know more about our collaborator’s products, pieces or practice throughout the dinner.

Though both of these series are meant to be collaborative and uplifting of another, they will still feature an approach to food making and sharing through the lens of TXA TXA: a convivial, investigative, fun, and funky sense of cooking, exploring new ingredients, flavors and regions of the world. We tend to lean heavily towards Southeast Asian flavors with Mediterranean styles and applications. Our food should feel investigative but approachable, never fussy or fancy, but artistic and thoughtful. We always like to tell folks it is more about feeling rather than a specific ingredient or kind of food.

BYOB?

All of our Supper Club and vis-à-vis dinners come with a welcome cocktail, with an n/a option available. Nearly all of our dinners are BYOB. There is the occasional venue that doesn’t allow outside booze, and in this case, there will be drinks available for purchase. We will communicate this info in the event details on the purchase page and in the dinner info email that we send out two days prior to the dinner.

WHAT about DIETARY RESTRICTIONS?

We are always happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or allergies for Supper Club, Vis-à-vis, or any private gathering. Our goal is to be inclusive and safe! When folks purchase a seat for a dinner we have a drop down menu choice : vegetarian, pescatarian, or standard, along with an allergy section and guest notes section. So, lots of invitations and opportunity to communicate your needs!

When you arrive for a dinner you will receive one more check-in about your menu choice or allergy and will be given a pink menu/allergy card to place at the top of your seat so when dishes are coming the table our support staff knows that you will receive a special altered dish to keep you on track and safe.

do you do PRIVATE EVENTS?

Yes—Private dinners, one-on-one chef experiences, birthday celebrations, weddings, client dinners, holiday gatherings, drop-off caterings. You name it. We do all of these and more, in your space, our space, or a third party space. We craft personalized menus for you and your guests and offer a variety of event tiers. Go HERE to let us know more about you and your special event. Though we do have some standardized and streamlined pricing, we know that each event and gathering has it’s own set of paremeters and needs, so this will take a conversation.
